Helan is the third-largest health insurance fund in Flanders. It was established on January 1, 2022, as a merger of Partena Health Insurance Fund and OZ (Independent Health Insurance Fund). Helan has just under 950,000 members in Flanders in 2025.

Helan, Partenamut (Wallonia), and Freie Krankenkasse (German-speaking Community) belong to the same umbrella organization called MLOZ – National Association of Independent Health Insurance Funds. Together, they have 2.3 million members, making the National Association of Independent Health Insurance Funds the third largest in Belgium.

Helan offer

The primary task of the Helan health insurance fund is to arrange statutory reimbursements from the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (RIZIV) for its members. These statutory reimbursements are the same for every health insurance fund.
Members of Helan are also entitled to additional membership benefits. Membership benefits vary by health insurance fund. For those who wish, Helan also offers hospitalisation insurance and dental insurance.
Helan also offers home care, maternity care, and household help services, and you can purchase healthcare supplies and other health-related products through the Healthcare Shop.
