What is Mutualité Chrétienne?
Mutualité Chrétienne health insurance fund
Mutualité Chrétienne (MC) is one of the largest mutual health insurance funds in Belgium. Founded at the end of the 19th century through Christian-inspired solidarity initiatives, MC has now become a national organisation with the primary objective is to make healthcare and social protection accessible to all.
Today, Mutualité Chrétienne has 4.6 million members across Belgium. MC provides them with the legally mandated reimbursement of their medical expenses and handles various aspects of compensation claims, for example, in cases of work incapacity or pregnancy. MC has approximately 1.1 million members, while its Dutch-speaking counterpart, Christelijke Mutualiteit, CM in short, has almost 3.5 million members at current.
Additional health benefits for members
In addition to organising mandatory health insurance, MC offers a range of additional benefits to its members. The current focus is on sports, holidays and leisure benefits, mental health, and reimbursement for dental care (orthodontics).
Insurances
MC also offers to its members optional hospitalisation insurances: Hospi+, Hospi +100, and Hospi +200, which provide financial protection against medical expenses in the event of hospitalisation. MC's offering also includes the Medi+ plan, a supplementary insurance for outpatient care that helps to cover costs of medical services and assistance.
CM prioritizes proximity and engagement through its local offices, online tools, and volunteers. The organisation is founded on core values such as solidarity, responsibility, respect for the individual, and social justice. MC also plays a significant role in the public debate on health and social protection.
