More than €300 billion is held in regulated savings accounts in Belgium. Yet finding out which savings account offers the best return is not always straightforward. YouSave is therefore expanding its comparison platform to cover savings accounts and term deposits in full, with a focus on market averages, historical interest rates and developments in the savings market.
Belgians remain keen savers. At the end of June 2026, €309.4 billion was held in regulated savings accounts, according to the National Bank of Belgium. Term deposits also remain popular: in the second quarter of 2026, Belgian households placed an additional €1.8 billion in net terms into these products. Higher interest rates have made term deposits attractive again in recent years for savers who are willing to lock away their money for a fixed period.
But how can savers tell whether their bank offers a competitive rate? And how does that rate compare with what is currently available on the Belgian market? With its new comparison tools, YouSave aims to provide an answer that is as comprehensive and objective as possible.
The comparison covers the full range of savings accounts and term deposits available on the Belgian market. It goes beyond simply ranking products by their highest interest rates: account conditions, the different components of interest rates and expected returns are also taken into account.
One important feature is that market averages are calculated separately for traditional savings accounts and monthly savings products. This provides a more accurate picture of average interest rates. Monthly savings products generally offer higher rates, but they also limit the amounts that can be deposited each month. By avoiding a blanket comparison of all savings accounts, YouSave aims to give consumers a more meaningful benchmark against which to assess their own bank’s offering.
The comparison goes beyond today’s rates. YouSave also tracks historical interest rate movements and aims to explore market trends and outlooks through in-depth analysis. How are advertised rates changing? What differences exist between banks and product types? And what could changes in the interest rate environment mean for savers?
By combining up-to-date product information, historical data and market analysis, YouSave aims to help consumers do more than compare products side by side: it also seeks to give them a better understanding of the wider context in which they make their decisions.
The expansion builds on the experience of YouSave’s founders in the financial sector and in comparing financial products. Co-founder Brecht Coene has been a familiar face in the media for several years as a financial expert. This experience helps shape YouSave’s approach: combining a comprehensive overview of the market with reliable data, transparent comparisons and relevant insights.
With the addition of savings accounts and term deposits, YouSave is expanding its offering beyond its existing comparison tools for health insurance funds and hospitalisation insurance. The goal remains the same: to help consumers make better-informed financial decisions based on comprehensive, up-to-date and comparable information.
